Despite these difficulties, he emerged victorious, gaining his parental rights and making his daughter his number one priority. In 2001, while still homeless, penniless, but not hopeless, David T. Rosen created the world’s first online global crowdfunding platform, called 5-Star Exchange, at the time, he referred to it as an online global “peer-to-peer money exchange system.” His creation of crowdfunding stemmed from his enduring hope and belief in its potential. In September 2018, after losing his entire net worth, facing server financial difficulties and the separation from his wife, David got his health back and received financial support from a trusted friend that allowed him to secure an rental apartment and get back on his feet. One month later, he released a business he had initially built in 2011, which enabled him to pay off all his debts by December 2018. By February 2019, he once again achieved multimillionaire status.
